I always thought "Slim" on BCB looks like Ed Little.

I posted it because it's clearly been taken from way before they were big TV stars. This must have been around 1970 or so, I reckon. And yes, Syd Little (still alive) looks like a murderer. Shockingly poor 'act'. Huge show on BBC for many years, and I believe there was outrage when it was pulled. Mainly from Eddie Large

Worse than Cannon & Ball, and that's saying something.

Might be an idea to move this to classic threads, although there's a lot of links expired.

Around 1956. The first house we lived in that I remember. My grandad the nonce took the picture, mainly I think to commemorate the job my dad made replacing the sash windows (as seen on number 184) with those casements that he made. He was handy, Dad. A Streak (Gresley A4 Pacific) storming through Harringay West station in 1961. I used to go there often on my scooter in the late 1950s to trainspot, either from the platforms or, more often, from the bridge you can see to the right of the picture, beside the house with the faded painted ad for John Bull Magazine. From the bridge, you could see along the line for a quarter mile in both directions. Although Harringay West was very much a local station, the main east coast line from Kings Cross to Scotland ran under the same bridge, and those trains were usually pulled by Streaks. When anyone saw (or heard - the whistles on those fuckers were something else) the cry of 'Streak' would go up and we would jostle to position ourselves above the track it was on. The rumble of the approach, the crash and thunder as the engine went under the bridge at around 80mph and the blast of smoke and water vapour - well, it was as big a thrill as was available at the time and had a profouond effect on me - and probably my taste in music. Thirty years later, I was on holiday with Chip near Bewdley in Worcestershire, when I heard a distant whistle, turned, and saw, emerging from the woods on the other side of the valley, a streak pulling a train on a steam revivalist line. I was so overcome, I fell to my knees, in tears. Later on that holiday, we went to the railway HQ and I saw it up close, stationary. A real thrill. Ahem. Downhills School 1957-8. I can still name more than half of my classmates in this picture. Was going to carry on, but called away. Back later maybe.
