Well it's probably true, but it is a bit like saying Jeffrey Archer's latest is better than every Barbara Cartland novel.

I have never knowingly heard a Red Hot chili Peppers song, but I have heard the Cliff one, and it's very ordinary indeed. Unless this is a deliberate provocation, or irony, or one of those other diseases, it suggests that this Huw person disdains the cock-socked chappies a great deal, but, owing to the aforementioned ignorance, I can make no claim to being able to comment on the rectitude of his opinion in this instance.
You're probably wondering why I bothered to post this at all.
I know I am

The real question is how did Ray avoid hearing a Chili Peppers song for so long ? Starting with "Higher Ground", they seemed inescapable everywhere on the planet..

He might have heard this:
which, for what it's worth, I think is pretty great.
It's the 'REM syndrome' with this lot - you get the most intolerable shit alongside a song that you kind of like, despite yourself. Or you'll see them live on MTV or something and you'll think 'actually they're a very good band!' - and then the next day you hear them in a bar and you want to set fire to the place.

It’s not a great song, but a listening to dressing changes in a hospital burn ward is preferable to anything the RHCP did.

It's a no from me. Cliff is the antitheses of everything an artist should be, whereas RCHP are just some misguided muppets who somehow became massive. Their cover of "Higher Ground" was alright, too, which gives me a bit of cover against the specific song choice. If they'd have gone with "Move It", it would have been more difficult.

About the only song by Cliff i like even a bit is 'Wired for Sound', so RHCP for me. Flea is an ace bass player, and musically they have made a few good songs, so easy victory.

I like it quite a bit. It has this real sort of "ersatz Rundgren" quality that seems positively artful coming from...you know...Cliff.

Or is Rundgren an ersatz Cliff? Sounds like a poll question...

The only album of theirs I have which I bought at the time (1991) was this one, which I liked well-enough, misguided muppets with pants lyrics though they may be, it's good enough, radio-friendly pop-funk-rock. Cliff? Never.

I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Cliff Richard owes me money.

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and even though I like the Cliff song and dislike a lot of RHCP stuff, I'm just so irrationally pissed off by the old fogeyness of the premise that I'm voting no
