I mean, I'll sit in the theater and enjoy my loud BBs music, drink and snacks, but...even with this slightly novel approach, there is a sense that his story has been told more than most.
And, yes, I winced at a few of those talking heads.

Anymore, whenever I see someone asking Brian about the bad old days I just wish they'd leave the poor old guy alone.
I also wish he'd just stop singing, but I guess that's a different conversation.

I've seen him so many times over the past 23 years (including this past Saturday), and...as regards his own contribution to these concerts, yes..."diminishing returns" is putting it politely. And, yet - man, that band is something else. It really is like an orchestra of absurdly talented Brian lovers/scholars who present these amazing arrangements in a concert setting. You can't hear/see it anywhere else (I would imagine Mike Love's band is pretty serious "fakebook versions"), and...it's real special stuff, but...right, you really are listening AROUND the maestro.

Exactly. I've seen him three or four times myself and wouldn't rule out doing it again, but... you know.

And, yes, "brand new Brian Wilson song/recording" is surely not the hook the filmmakers think it is.

Maybe this will finally kill all the genius hubris, unfortunately being a sympathetic character has been confused with genius: Wilson, Syd Barrett, Daniel Johnston, Skip Spence, etc., Yes, they endured some difficult times and addiction whilst doing their peak work, and then nothing, probably not genius.

Just watched this.
Two surprises:
1) Brian had never listened to his brother Dennis' solo album.
2) Bob Gaudio of The Four Seasons, who appears briefly, and who is five months younger than Brian, looks young enough to be his son.

As much as you don't want to dishonor the dead by saying "Poor ____ (spouse's name)" the moment that someone dies, this is a unique situation and...both testimony and supposition would suggest that fewer husbands have leaned on their wives more than he did on her.
It's sad for any number of reasons. I had no idea she was as old as she was, and...it seems (NYT is paywalled) that there was probably an illness. While I was glad to see him FINALLY "quiet quit" the grind of the road at 80 (!!!), I do wonder if a privately ailing wife was a factor.
You don't doubt that he and the kids are UNIQUELY crushed.
And while I found "her movie" fairly self serving, there is no doubt that she absolutely gave him the tools to have ANY kind of second act (much less one as remarkable, unexpected, and multi-layered as the one he had).

I ought to have known. I too was surprised that she was that old.
