Cale looks good, doesn't he? Amazing what you can do with a proper Hollywood budget!

Why on Apple TV plus ? Is he trying to replicate the same amount of people who can watch this with the same amount of people who bought the first album? "Only a hundred people watched the show, but those 100 people went on to make their own shows..." I can't wait to see it. It is so long overdue and I'd really like to see it in a great cinema too.

Yeah, definitely planning to see it in a theater (and I don't have Apple + and will probably want to hold off on the 'free trial' for something else), but not sure my little podunk town will get it, so I might have to go to LA (our one 'arty' theater wasn't getting enough audience even pre-pandemic, so it's not open currently. But if they re-open, they'll be the one to have this - the Neil doc showed there (with Neil in attendance! He didn't go to the LA one!)
The interesting thing for me is that from all accounts, it 'dwells on the positive' every bit as much as Peter Jackson's Get Back. So why is Jackson being criticized for it, and Haynes not? Probably says something about Haynes' 'outsider' status (yet sounds, production-wise, very similarly handled).

Probably because there isn't a decades-earlier "negative version" for it to be compared to.

Really enjoyed it. Todd Haynes isn't fucking around.
I won't say too much - but Cale is great, Jonathan is great, and it's better on the early years - as is often the case with these docs. And it's very honest about Lou.
No Bono, no Grohl, but lesser-known characters who were very close to the band members.
They were the most exciting band to ever hit our ears and this reminds you every couple of minutes. You should definitely see it.

I'm headed to a 'watch party' later tonight (with an ex-BCBer pal).
The reviews are mostly saying it's well worth seeing in a theater, but who knows when I'll be able to do that. Only place it's showing within 100 miles of me is a small indoor theater in one of the most crowded sections of LA. No thanks.
If it does come closer to me, I suspect it will be a much more comfortable experience all around. And I don't think having seen it on the small screen already will ruin that for me.

This may be the best news I've heard about a music documentary in my lifetime.

Actually I THINK I'm right in saying that the only voices you hear are those of the band OR or of people close to the band (relatives or colleagues). People who were THERE, in other words.
I guess it was Todd Haynes' policy. Good on him!
