I really like what I've heard of early Tull and I'm long overdue doing a deeper dive into their work. I must admit all that mad-eyed loon stuff from Anderson has put me off doing his, but it's probably time I got over that! The posted track was rather charming and I really liked it's sunny arrangements. HIT!

They definitely are an acquired taste. I somehow ended up with around 5 or 6 of their albums over the past several decades, but I never listen to them. I don't know why they're still on my shelves, I've culled, to use a googamooga term, so many times over the years. The whole medieval schtick can be grating as hell, and Anderson's vocal mannerisms can really get on my nerves. The whole whimsical Python humor is more annoying than not. I even managed to see them live around 45 years ago. There must be something there, though or I would have ditched them during the Carter administration. I do like the first three, I guess.

I expected something bad, not something beige. Really boring, the sound of a charity-shop sofa.

I quite like early Tull. They swing and had a couple of really good guitar players.
Obviously Anderson's schtick gets old quickly and I've never gone beyond the first couple of albums.

I really like the drums on it, but otherwise it's a bit meh for me.

I can't get past that album cover. Herself is rather fond of them, and has met Anderson and likes him (she also plays the flute), but after their first hit single, which I did buy in a bargain bin, I have studiously avoided them.
I'm sure that those of you who enjoy music, or are musicians, can find something to like, but shallow types like me, for whom words, images, class-related disdain for prog, and emotional response are far more important in judging records, I've got it firmly in mind that they, along with Genesis and King Crimson, are total dogshit, and I don't have a bag big enough to pick after them.

I don't think the early stuff has anything to do with prog really. They seem more like Fairport Convention, folk with a West Coast twist.

At whatever point I finally discovered just how magical the song "Living in the Past" was, I opened up somewhat to the first four albums. It's not my "go to music", but...there's something there, and when I'm in the mood, it's nice.

There's a LOT I don't like about the band (most of it's been pointed out already, and a lot of it is irrational, but nonetheless heartfelt!) but this thing is EXCELLENT

As a certified Prog Lover™ I always found Tull to be a bit too flakey for my tastes. Perhaps it's Anderson's whole schtick that puts me off. The tune in the OP is certainly NOT prog to these ears, but it is a pleasant little number - more hit than shit.

Agree that "Move On Alone" isn't prog at all - in fact, its parent album isn't, really (nor, arguably, the next couple). I like the tune, but would like it more without the trumpets (although they do add a little something to the coda). Clive Bunker (drums) and Glenn Cornick (bass) are fabulous on this (as they were on most everything else on the first three). This tune was written and sung by the band's original guitarist Mick Abrahams, who was not aware of the trumpet overdubs until the album came out (Ian even jokes about it in the liner notes!).
