I doubt that anyone here misread you, Felix!

I'm going to go out on a limb, and state that I don't think virtuoso accordion players exist.

All accordion players are drunk buskers with damaged instruments (in more ways than one), or wankers in restaurants playing faux gypsy French love songs.

Although I would not suggest ACC, nor indeed my Dad, is a virtuoso

I'm only really aware of Astor Piazzola, and while I find stuff like this a bit corny, I can certainly see its appeal (I bet Carlsson really digs it):

Love the accordian in this I never considered that might be a real accordion, it always sounded very synth-ish. Never seen the video before. Apologies to Ray and his dad, too. I had them down more as your slightly mad glockenspiel types.

since you asked for it (and I seem to have derailed the thread for good...).
It's Marcel Oetiker on a small diatonic "Schwyzerörgeli" (a real bastard to play).

I had them down more as your slightly mad glockenspiel types. Apparently it is real and played by a bloke called Wix Wickens. I wish there were more accordians in songs actually.

One of the differences is that bandoneons don't have a piano-like keyboard.

I was going to say that exact thing . And I don't consider either Piazzola or Marcel Oetiker to be virtuosos, they are nothing but clumsy hacks in the world of free-reed aerophone playing, in my deeply knowledgeable opinion.

They should've stuck with pumping the bellows at their local smithy.
