I’m going to start of this thread with this track, in order to hopefully steer a specific direction:
My Faith - The Fi-Tones (1957)
Maybe it’s a function of my age, but really - there’s no other kind of music I love more than the slightly ethereal doo-wop ballad. I probably venerate this kind of record vastly out of proportion, but I’m okay with that.
A record like this is a study in contrasts. It’s both musically simple, but also harmonically sophisticated. Its emotional landscape is both naive and deep and wise. The lyrics are simultaneously moon/June/spoon and kind of profound.
I can fill a thread full of my favorite doo-wop ballads. But I’m hoping y’all understand what I’m looking for and have a few favorites of your own to share.

I liken doo-wop to the sound of a birds morning song. It is always welcome.
I don't want it doing it all day tho. The magic would fade.

I just bought the 12-disc East Side Story CD set, so maybe I'll have some suggestions later. It's maybe the genre with the highest "great" ratio.

Sometime in the very early 1990s I was going through a depressive phase, and one night I thought I need a CD of doo wop ballads. So I went to Tower Records and bought one. It did what I needed it to do. Even though I already had it on the American Graffiti soundtrack, I probably wouldn't have bought that collection if it didn't include this, which just might be my favorite record ever:

That's my favourite one by far. It has a mysterious quality that makes it stand out.

I mean, in that shortlist of "you'll forever remember where you were the first time you heard it" songs - my file photo for "I Only Have Eyes..." is as firmly fixed as can be.
