Just a thread brought to mind by my son again. He keeps commandeering my office to do his GCSE revision, says he needs the room with the bigger desk. But I reckon this is merely subterfuge as he's really going through my vinyl collection, and been running through the Bowie and Joy Division sections. Anyway, Aladdin Sane was on the deck when I kicked him out yesterday. It's my de facto favourite Bowie album (with Hunky Dory, probably), but I haven't actually listened to it for ages. Anyway, how unexciting an intro is "Watch That Man", a stodgy rock song on an album full of theatre, drama, and tunes.
My other obvious contender is White Light\White Heat, but enough time has been spent on that particular discussion, so please gloss over it.

Sergeant Pepper without a doubt. I mean, it's full of dumb tracks and petty annoyances, but that really announces up front, fuck rock & roll, Music Hall is where it's at.
EDIT
On further reflection, it isn't particularly 'weak', it's just horrible and vacuous with an inherent power to disgust and to make me leave the room. It's also twined with death and grief in my world.

Notorious Byrd Brothers Axis Bold As Love What the hell is WRONG with "Artificial Energy"? It's a splendid start.

I share many of my musical interests among fishies favourites. White Light\White Heat, however, is one of the most exciting things ever recorded. As I say every time, how they got that sound will always amaze me. I am yet to hear anything that still brings out the wonder in me of that recording every time I hear it.

WLWH isn't a very good album full stop if we're honest. Actually that's a bit harsh, another way of putting it is its strength is in the kind of experimentalism that might impact you initially but whose impact recedes over time. At least that's how it will be for many. The title track is the best thing on it though.

To me it's the Velvets' peak. Every track a winner. That sound. Unlike anything else, before or since.

I clearly said we should gloss over that one. But the title track is a soggy lettuce leaf of a track, clearly the most dull and lethargic thing on the album.

Oh ffs. WLWH is one of my five favourite albums. The title track, good though it is, isn't a patch on either of the tracks on side 2.

Not enough cowbell.
For what it's worth, I prefer the 1st and the 3rd albums, but G has laid down his judgment.
