I thought it was all about the textured sleeve. Still, I wasn't planning to sell, and I probably didn't pay more than a fiver for it.

Earlier this week started putting all my inventory back up for sale after about three years away. Did that by Wednesday. Made a few sales, put more stuff online (the legacy of Thang's late husband seems inexhaustible) to gratifying response sind myself working five hours or more a day, putting records on, packaging the ones I'd sold, dealing with bureaucracy and endlessly sorting through or lugging about boxes crammed with vinyl or CDs and trying to make sense of, and money from, it all. And tonight, I turn on my laptop, go straight to the orders page, find nothing new since this morning, and think, "Fuck, what am I doing wrong?"

Are you still selling to Germany Ray? In theory, yes, just set it up to sell to mainland Europe yesterday, but no-one has ordered anything yet. Why do you ask?

They have a new packaging act (to do with environmental stuff) that you have to sign up to and which gets you a permit. It costs quite a lot. If you don't do it you get fined. www.ecosistant.eu/en/german-packaging-act-2022/I'm no longer selling there. Not worth my while.

The article seems to suggest that it's an EU directive and might apply in other countries, such as France and Spain. However, I am not a business, I'm a hobbyist/private individual doing non-commercial transactions, and always mark customs forms as a gift, so it may not apply to me. If I get a warning, I'll stop trading - not that I did much with Germany, anyway.

It definitely applies to you because you're selling, but you may get away with marking them as gift. I don't know how stringently it's being applied.

I'm not buying or manufacturing to sell, I'm selling off my personal property that I bought to use. It's the same reason I don't pay/charge any income tax, VAT, etc.

Apparently you've got to click on something to say you agree with their new terms. I don't remember getting an email about this, but....anyway, accidentally found out yesterday. That might explain why I haven't had any orders for months.

That might explain why I haven't had any orders for months. That tax business selling to the USA or EU is a pain, though, especially for a hobbyist seller; which I still am, officially, even though I've more than 1,000 items listed (and up to 10,000 to come, should I live that long). Now I'm only selling to the UK, Canada, Japan and Switzerland, where this nonsense does not apply. And discogs/payPal are now taking 9% of the P&P costs as well as the price of the record, so you should up your selling terms by 10% across the board.
More than £600 of orders since I went back on the 3rd of the month, after my trip to France, including £200 for a 12" single, 'ABANDON SHIP' by April Showers. As I spend 20-30 hours a week sorting, listing, cleaning, dealing with orders, prepping, packing and posting, it is, as my pal Mike pointed out yesterday, barely the minimum wage.

What's with this 'partner fee'? I had to pay nearly fifteen quid on a £44 sale!

If so, that would include discog's cut, paypal's cut (together, 9% of total, ie including postage) and the whole of any sales taxes or import duties discogs have levied. Otherwise, it does seem a bit steep. Send me a PM with a screenshot of the invoice if you want a more exact answer.
