The article has been amended and edited since I'm afraid. It was a bit shabby and I guess Labour and Starmer in particular are jumpy about any sort of link to any anti-semitism, however vague the connection is. Should Starmer have sacked RLB? In an ideal context, a warning should have sufficed, but as I said earlier, he clearly wants to make Labour electable and will jump at the slightest chance to boot out any Corbynistas. If I was in his shoes I'd do the same. I don't care about realpolitik or political opportunism or any of that. I'd rather have an alllegance to truth and justice. Those things are rather more important.

It's Maxine Peake's fault, anyway. She's a bit of a dope.

Leaders have to make decisions that aren't conveniently couched in those terms though.
Sometimes leaders have to make the best of two bad choices. That is politics.

He doesn't have to invent some spurious claim of anti-semitism in order to score a political point. That's called dishonesty and no he doesn't have to do it.

It's true. She made the most preposterous and unfounded assumption, didn't check her facts, and now it's all THIS American police forces have been sent to Israel for training. When did a fact become unfounded and preposterous?

The relevant bit: “Systemic racism is a global issue,” she adds. “The tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services.” (A spokesperson for the Israeli police has denied this, stating that “there is no tactic or protocol that calls to put pressure on the neck or airway”.)and there's a whole load more 'oooh Tories are evil' half-baked shit in the interview. Mindless dopey crap from a half-educated celeb keen to appear . It pisses me off. That's bad enough, but for R L-B to retweet it, saying Peake is an 'absolute diamond'? Is this the level of discourse you want to see among high-ranking politicians, G? honestly? www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/maxine-peake-interview-labour-corbyn-keir-starmer-black-lives-matter-a9583206.html

Erm. This coming from someone who posted a tweet from "Zionist Report" the other day.
Er, hello?
Recent tweets on that account include "Jew Lies Matter" and encouraging people to burn the Israeli flag. But posting an Independent article is a sackable offence.

Good to see Starmer make a decisive statement about the UK BLM movement today calling for defunding of the police as "nonsense".
Labour is moving towards the centre to battle the Tories there - they've finally woken up (sic).

Excellent news, yes. Another centrist party will really help us during these difficult times. Bravo Mr. Starmer!

John, do you seriously believe that a radical Left party would ever be elected?

No.
But there's a bit of a difference between 'radical Left' and centre ground.
Have a think.

The evidence suggests strongly that the average British voter is economically left-wing and culturally conservative.
That's why the Tory government is pivoting strongly towards a "New Deal" style that breaks with previous incumbents.
It is also why a culturally left-wing Labour party, particularly one with "" tendencies is destined to fail.
