I think part of it is the gobby "working class woman" schtick that appeals to some as if she's an authentic working class voice or summat. I liked the fact that she was openly critical of Corbyn but she wasn't principled enough, especially on anti-semitism, to actually leave the party despite stating that the party's response was pathetic. She's a socialist too so economically is in the same ballpark which won't help her. But...I still kinda like her but reckon she's rather out of her depth for the top job. So basically you want someone a bit posh, who isn't left wing, not a gobby woman and who has left the Labour Party.
You'll just have to hope this guy gets back into politics!
Or failing him Toby!

Is socialism perceived as being so extreeemely left?
Just because those rabid Republicans are saying as much in the States, that kind of bollocks "call it something often enough and people will believe it" doesn't wash in the UK, right?

Short version....there is a lack of real substance and she appeals to a certain kind of middle class Labour supporter cos she's opinionated and "working class".
I mean she distanced herself from Corbyn and yet she is a socialist so how different is she really?

No, I didn't read it either, I've see enough of Fox News, Spiked, The Daily Mail etc to know I don't value their reporting.
She was substantial enough for me in her Parliamentary dealings when I watched, and I watched a lot. If I were to be in a position to vote in the Leadership election I'd look into all of them but from what little know of all of them she's good enough for me, not just because she's working class or opinionated but that those opinions were along my lines of thinking and well-put. Those kinds of dismissal don't other me and I don't really see it bothering the people who'll be voting but I obviously some forms of criticism will be forthcoming.
As for Socialism being 'left', my point is it's being used as a criticism of being an extremist in the States. Of course it's Left, and if you're a rabid capitalist or libertarian any form of being on the left is a threat.

That's like me commentating on the Tory leadership election and saying " They shouldn't elect that person, they seem too conservative".

I hate to break this to you but you had a socialist candidate and they got humped. Pointing out therefore that may not be the best candidate to help Labour recover is hardly controversial.
Honestly G, you need to give up on this socialism thing. Or else move to Venezuela with Griff and Carol. I'll come visit ya'll!
We can all sit round the fire singing songs and BBQing rats.
