Rubbish answer, Dougie.
Did you watch the interview?

Right wing has nothing to do with people objecting to the behaviour of him or his wife. It’s got nothing to do with people finding his revelations about him "mounting" some woman (ugh), his frost bitten penis, killing 25 men or his fight with his brother salacious, unbecoming, rude, crass and poor form (I mean how many army veterans talk about that stuff?). Many people don’t like it and they especially don’t like it coming from a royal whose Grandmother recently died and who represented the very opposite of all this tawdry look-at-me celebrity nonsense. The fact that he is doing all this not long after the Queens death really exhibits such a lack of nous that you wonder what the hell the fella is thinking?
It's really not a good look and it's got sfa with right/left wing, John.
No, I didn't watch the interview. Maybe if it was Andrew Neil or somebody like that I might have been tempted but some blow-smoke-up-your-arse ITV hack? Nah.

There's two things here. The substance of his complaints and the way he's gone about transmitting the former with the numerous interviews, book deals, tv programmes etc. Most people won't consider the validity of his arguments because of the way he's seen as exploiting family issues for publicity and money. I think he's shot himself in the foot in that regard.

I'm not so sure that most people will dismiss what he's saying because of the fact he's so visible right now, but I take your point. It's going down much better in the States than here, I think.

I don't know anybody here (the US) that gives a shit one way or another. We already have the Kardashians.

Oh I dunno about that. I think we tend to conflate California and that world as being representative of America when they are two quite different things.
There's a lot of respect for the Queen over there. Outside the hyperventilating celebrity press who fawn over the Kardashians etc I suspect there are plenty people who aren't impressed.

I remember an interview with Monica Lewinsky from quite a few years back - on the internet but before Podcasts became a thing. Maybe it was one of those AOL Chat type things. anyway - she said, in so many words. "as soon as they start writing about you - do your best to GET PAID" I think, regardless of what you think of them and if you'd pee on them if you had the chance, M&H find themselves in that very boat.Cher didn't make any money off the stories about her in the tabloids in the 70's. Lucky for her she didn't need it. Look, I'd rather get a god damned ROOT CANAL than watch that Netflix show but it seems to me that they are taking Monica Lewinsky's advice. they are monetizing the great, festering, hard to understand FIXATION that has grown up around their situation. I don't give a shit about either one of them but this seems to me the easiest thing to understand about them. they want to get paid. At $100 million paid by Netflix, so they're not hurting. I watched the Anderson Cooper interview and I'm ambivalent. Harry comes across as honest and forthright, but does he have to be that honest and forthright in front of the world? Wasn't the Netflix series enough that you got paid? Did you have to dogpile with a memoir? I believe he's being protective of his wife, but I'd lean towards being a little more discreet and only answer when asked. But I get that he wants to get his story out first. Re: America's view of British royals, I think the media makes a bigger deal than what average Americans think. Living in a state that's largely agricultural and ranching without a really big metro center, people could care less is my take away. Maybe in bigger media centers, the gossip and story has more traction, and probably on the East Coast which is geographically closer to the country. By and large, I don't think Americans care at all. You could find out by looking at book sales and ratings. But I wouldn't use Harry and Meghan's wedding as a barometer. You couldn't escape it on cable news so people probably watched it.

I was pretty ambivalent until this weekend. The revelations in the book… well, I don’t think I’d be talking about that kind of thing in that kind of a way. I think it is ‘unbecoming’. Trashy. No class.
The kill score or whatever it was called… that opens a can of worms for him that he and his family will never run from. He will always have a price on his head, and the ruddy-faced simple cunt has put it there, all on his own.

Fair enough, but I didn't mean that MORE Americans cared about this than Brits. I meant that Americans are more likely to be sympathetic.

I wonder what my score is. From what I can tell from your signature, it would be "The monkey slaps his thighs/He scratches himself with a potato". At least the music alongside that. No?

I struggle to think of anyone with a reasonable mind who can think that all of this is somehow a good thing.
A privileged, messed up aristocrat with a Hollywood actress wife living in a Californian mansion warbles about his past to hungry media who pay him vast, unimaginable sums for the right to publish salacious details about an institution that is renowned for not making specific comments about private incidents.
I mean, who the fuck thinks that there's any good to come out of this?
