I dunno if you have seen the Hitchen's doc. Part of it is here:
The media lost their minds and the way they censored themselves was unreal too. I mean scary. Pathetic stuff.
Nobody I knew gave a fuck yet they shoved this down our throats. The way they portrayed this whole NATION IN MOURNING shit like it was the death of Churchill or summat was madness. One of those moments in life where you find yourself looking at People and thinking, "people are insane, what the fuck is wrong with them?".
I guess it's some kind of group madness that took hold. People performing in public in a ritualistic way. I couldn't believe it.

It's all bollocks, taps into the unquestioning reactions (but then they know that, they're certainly playing it well for themselves - not giving away exactly what was said about the baby's skin colour leaves it open for cries of 'racism' rather than the usual general curiosity - which I suspect was the case. I don't think it wouldn't even occur to whoever said it questioning [eye, hair and] skin colour could be seen as racist.) As in the Diana era, the media love it. As a media user, I try not even to click on links which feed it. And as much as I've always been in theory a republican (it would take a large event, something revolutionary enough to change things so entrenched in the country - which will never happen), and as much as I wasn't and am not a fan of Diana, Charles is Harry's father. The timing of it. Also I can see and hear Charles in him. But also, because Harry takes strongly after his aunt, Sarah McCorquodale - Diana's sister, amusing as it would be to believe there's a cuckoo in the nest

But I'm struggling to think of a context where that would be an acceptable thing to say.

Ah, I watched a snippet of the interview once, with Oprah reacting shocked and Meghan nodding. I think she'd said a royal talked to Harry wondering how dark the baby's skin would be. What on earth is wrong with that? Wondering about eye colour, hair colour, skin colour of an unborn baby ... Or even if they just wondered about the skin hue and nothing else. Of your own grandchild, great-grandchild, or whatever. Perfectly normal anticipatory ponderings. Genuinely. What is wrong with that? People wonder about all kinds of things about how the yet unborn baby will be.
*Edit - but not clarifying exactly what was said and the manner - leaves it open for misinterpretation. Which is bollocks.
"Concerns and conversations". So she's saying they were concerned about how dark he might be. She's out and out saying that un-named person is racist. That's a big accusation. She should at the very least say what was said, the manner, and whether it was staff or family.

And I'm very anti-the whole monarchy thing, as an institution. And I think on a personal level many of them are brats.
(The other thing I've argued about with people concerning monarchy is some people were complaining that Harry and Meghan at the time had their security paid for. Well Harry's the monarch's grandson. Attention will fall on him whether or not he's officially in the firm. Our country has (and hasn't evicted) a monarchy, if individuals have to live with the consequences of that such as a need for security, then the country should pay for it. I don't agree with having a monarchy but we've got one so we need to pay for the necessaries.)

I know why this is news, but how is this news? I felt it a bit disengenuous complaining on a huge spread in Malibu or Pacific Palisades or whatever they were.
I am not British, but I agree with a lot of what Thang writes. I came away feeling for the both of them because of what they /are going/went through, but also feeling like, "Well now you know what normal folks go through." It's kinda like they want their cake and eat it too.
I kinda think it would help if they ended the institutution once this Queen dies and decide what to do with the properties and wealth then. Give the remaining family some kind of golden parachute and say, "Buh-bye."

I bet JC is also quietly fuming that we've got an 8 page and growing thread on this bullshit and there's NOTHING on BCB about it at all!
"In this month's issue of Preludin we've got all the low down on the LATEST GOSSIP, with insiders Thang and Dougie's weekly columns"

Talk about dysfunctional families!

"I just didn't want to be alive anymore" Funnily enough I feel the same after watching the clip Thang posted. That's called irony. Americans are good at it. Brits suck at it.
