I don't know how it looked from across the big water but here's how it looks to me in the Good Old U.S of A...
The TRUMP Administration's response to COVID was SO oafish and ruled by self interest that it is as plain as the nose on the face. He thanked Xi-Ping for the great job he was doing and told us it was all going to go away - any DAY now for MONTHS. He used his "Daily Briefings" to marginalize the science and used the time as DeFacto campaign rallies! Have we looked into injecting bleach? maybe you should look into that!
"operation warp speed" got the horse to the water - too bad nobody thought about getting him a drink. they had NO goddam plan! Shoot, if they'd distributed the PPE properly and in the time honored fashion they could have hit the ground running. ALL TRUMP did was stick his finger in the air on any given day and figure out how to make others look bad & himself look good.
Even after he got it and had to go to the hospital, he stood on a balcony and made that dramatic gesture of taking his mask off. And then he said he felt great, mainly because he was pumped full of steroids and it was a different high than his usual Adderall.

I am suffering from a serious misunderstanding of the new Corona variants and the effect on the population of the UK . Who is catching the new strains and who is it being passed onto. I cannot find the age range concerned or the effect on double/single vaccine recipients. Is it a case of vaccinated you are ok , if so it is less of a concern or is it being spread by all too all and still causing problems? I am unsure whether the small amount of people hospitalised with the new variants are under 30 or vaccine refuseniks.

From everything I've read, the vaccines are doing very, very well against the variants that are developing. And haven't seen the stats to confirm this, but I feel like the unvaxxed are being affected much, much more - many times over. The question is will boosters be required to increase your protection against variants once you're fully vaxxed. The answer, as I understand it, at least so far, is we don't know. But there is a measurable advantage in being vaxxed against both the original pressing and the remix.

The general sentiment seems to be that vaccination is proving to be very successful.
Cases are on the rise in secondary schools - a teacher at the school I'm at is off with it.

There is certainly NO appetite for any sort of lockdown in the future.

There is certainly NO appetite for any sort of lockdown in the future. Yeah. Right now in the UK it's 'do whatever the fuck you like but with a mask on'

Booked Manchester - Venice flight for September 7th a couple of days ago. £23. Hoping things will be straightforward by then. Even if everything does open up for July I can't imagine our airports will be anything other than pure hell over summer, wherever and whenever you're going.
