I've got an Ercol sideboard at my dads house that is worth a few quid. The trouble is, getting someone to come and take it.
The issue with buying vintage, 2nd hand etc, is that you have to be in a rhythm of going to places to look for stuff, rather than anything specific. It's a time consuming process that takes years because there is simply no guarantee about what you will find. I wish we could be like that, but I really can't be bothered to traipse around shops doing it. Plus, it seems to me that the days of good bargains are long gone now.
I've been told that there are some french towns that do market days which still have ludicrous bargains.

Some things really should be bought new tho I think. Anything upholstered.
Nobody's answered my original question!

I ordered a catalogue from a furniture company and the fuckers have hounded me ever since. Turns out they're really interior design consultants

I ordered a catalogue from a furniture company and the fuckers have hounded me ever since. Turns out they're really interior design consultants I did once when I had bought a house with a ridiculously large living room ( 70 sqm), but nothing beyond the 'that's a good place for the couch, there's where the library will come, there's a nice spot for the TV, there's where we''ll put the speakers' I do like some design though. Especially that couch in you picture reminds me a lot of an Eileen Grey couch I've always loved ( but never got). Avout twenty years ago I bought two Curbusier chairs like this And I still have them and love them but they may meet here with the ' soulless' stigma

I go to auctions all the time ( well used to... ) and I frequently come across bargains..you don't have to go France, so I can't agree there. It's actually a great time to buy second hand furniture, Edwardian period furniture is especially underpriced at the moment..generally prices are about 60% cheaper than they were 15 years ago. It is true if you're going for something that's very hot at the moment like Mid Century Danish you'll find it much harder to find a bargain, but there's plenty of scope outside that. Oh and keep the Ercol

One man's 'modernism' is another man's 'bland and functional'!

Nobody's answered my original question! I did, in the first sentence of my first post on the thread. I did TOO. Incidentally, I still don't think interior design means austere and minimalist. this is more my natural style
