Have you ever been to the Geffrye Museum, G (or any other Londoners for that matter)? Yeah it's very interesting. Recreations of living rooms from (I think) the Victorian period onwards. Nice gardens too. Haven't been for six or seven years though...must visit again.

I'm going for something like this. By the way, I have one of those baskets, top mid-right, next to framed jersey, in my kitchen, on the door from my kitchen to my laundry annex.

We didn't make a plan, but the space definitely took shape around the couch/sofa. Prior to the one we have now, we had a similar styled one, but with fabric upholstery, which was a dog hair magnet (especially when we had Agnes the Pyrenees who constantly shed a ton of fur). I'm only slightly ashamed to admit that we spent a small fortune on a leather sofa almost solely because of the dog. We've been living in this space for 15 years now (bought in '99, renovated/rebuilt in '05) so it's definitely got a "lived-in" feel, but it's got our stamp on it, and almost everything in it means something to us. Where's the inside hockey goal?

What's the story with the fish Harv? It's a Jack fish, but it doesn't have a name. I got it at the auction house I used to work at (prior to the one I currently work at).

Did anyone put together a plan for the layout and design of their living room? Before I read anyone else's opinions (the thread is about 3 pages long after 24 hours!)... I like the LIGHT and airy feel. I don't want cramped. I like the open-plan nature-good for entertaining, and just being together whilst we cook etc I like to have a few photos and books and stuff lying around. But my wife doesn't. I want folks to see my stuff and immediately KNOW that I am really cultured. I prefer bigger settees that I can really slob into-ideally 7foot long, so I can sleep on them without curling up. I quite like the big abstract pic, but I'd probably do it myself, and put a bit of myself into it. Lots of downlighting spot;ights. Definitely need to have some mood lighting. I'm sick of downlighters. Is this your new place, John?

No! it's just a stock picture.
I like some aspects of it. The coffee table is magnificent. I like the big canvas, too, but yeah - not that particular painting. And it should be way higher.
Not keen on the 'autumn colours', really.
