Feeling rather non-plussed by the tedium of the home office, and needed a shot of pure emotion.

The shortest album I've ever owned is Tom Petty's second album, You're Gonna Get It. I think the running time is under 25 minutes for 10 songs. Some on here would consider that a blessing.

You'd be horrified to see how many huge hits these wankers had, especially in the USA.

Wasn't planning on even going anywhere today, but dropped Tom off in town to meet some of his mates and noticed adverts for a record fair in the market hall. Hence this collection of demos from Rayge's favourite bold, fearsome vocalist.

There was a subsequent collection of her songs (and, for the first pressing, her poetry) and I found it mesmerizing.

I am a big fan of everything on the Sunbeam label, esp the original incarnation, Richard Jack's relaunch hasn't been as elaborate but his two 60-70s UK and US music tomes are thee standard. galacticramble.co.uk

I was as impressed with the liner notes as much as the actual album, and I don't mean that as a back-handed complement (though there's a bit too much blues for my liking). Gabrielle Drake's letter/essay especially is a lovely thing, beautifully written and gives real insight into both how Nick was as a person and how on earth a family copes with grief, and a strange kind of minor celebrity grief at that. All three pieces are well chosen and written though.
