To be fair, you deserve all that for dissing DMST, and Tortoise. Actually, I don't own any Tortoise, but I've always guessed that I might like them if I ever bothered to listen. Don't bother. It's shit.

It certainly wears its influences on its sleeve, anyway. Neu!, Steve Reich, and a touch of Oval thrown in for good measure. I can't help but think the krautrock section is let down a touch by the drummer not being in the Liebezeit/Dinger class. But who is? Not sure I'd go as far as masterpiece myself, but it's definitely at least as good as that picture of a unicorn, if not quite as much fun.

Finally catching up with what all the cool kids were listening to in 2008.

the general consensus on 10cc seems to be that they are "too clever". Well, as a big 10cc/Godley & Creme fan I've decided that I don't agree. I've been listening to this collection of pre-Hotlegs/pre-10cc tracks and I could use some clever. I like their singing and the arrangements are often quite clever and Beatle-ish but this is WAY closer to Loggins & Messina on the whole although it does rock out pretty good here and there. the bulk of this is supposedly a still-born record album so maybe I'm not being fair. the catchy stuff comes off best. looking back - I think I like the clever because that was mostly Creme. He plays a lot of different things pretty darned well. I'll like him even better when he starts putting too many puns in his songs. not bad. not as good as I'd hoped. I like the "strawberry bubble gum" collection a little better.

Given there are very few shops left open in Wigan town centre, but HMV have decided to open a big n' bright new store, thought I'd help keep it open. Hopkins' Immunity is a minor masterpiece, but everything else I've heard has been a bit uninvolving, so I'm hoping this bucks the trend.

Properly dated IDM, really rough electronics and clunky beats. WE ARE EXPLOSIVE sounds like a John Coan random comment. It's pretty awesome despite/because of all that.

Like a lot of the lesser tiered '60s US bands: S.A.C., Electric Prunes, Lovecraft, etc., the Magoos trailed off into the sunset scrambling/ musically looking for their new moment. I have come to like their forgotten lesser considered albums more than their more lauded work.

I've only got a couple of albums by DVOA, which is the alter-ego of one Mark Spybey. This is a kinda ambient electronic thing with an air of travelogue about it, as per the album title. Somewhere between *Zoviet:France* (who Spybey was briefly a member of) and 23 Skidoo.
