Never heard them. It's Grand to be Old They snuck in the backdoor in the wake of The Strokes and Interpol and for some reason, Brits became enchanted with them..

It's just one song though isn't it? And even that was a rip off of Queen Bitch.

It brings me zero pleasure to say it, but...they are still playing the arenas in all US major markets (same venues as, say, McCartney or Madonna). When I was DJing, I seem to remember at least one of their songs being a frequent request. The fact that I accidentally accredited a Franz Ferdinand song to them doesn't speak well for either act.

I was quite pleased to catch in the listings a Sky Arts hour long piece on Ian MacCulloch, given they were a major band for me back in the day. As it turned out I could barely understand him and he just seemed to be rambling on in a way I couldn't make much sense of. Goodness knows how many takes they had to do to piece together a semi-coherent interview. I lasted 20 minutes.

He seemed more heroic, to me, before there was so much out there on the net-you tube etc Now he comes across as deluded, whereas before he seemed dangerous and menacing. “Don’t meet your heroes “. These days we don’t need to meet them for the scales to fall from our eyes.

Really rambling, juvenile shit from most of the band, loads of bollocks about the occult. Youth is the only one who seems vaguely normal, and he's clearly stoned out of his tree throughout.

Yeah. Disappointing really. I wanted to see more of the creative process, rather than the self-mythologising bollocks.
They were a great band- my absolute favourite for a couple of years in my late teens, and I’m still very fond, but…
