I get it, the forum is full of skagged out limp dick Velvets fans nodding out in the 'Ludin bathroom, cause they're hard men, leading hard lives. LOL But Taylor Swift has pulled off a very interesting fuck you to her record company, actually the private equity that has twice bought her masters. Most of us are never in a position to change the table on those who usually control it, and definitely not in the music world. She has very closely replicated her early albums, not the lame re-recordings that we have mistakenly bought of other legacy artists, but very close pristine soundalikes. Her fans are behind her and are boycotting the originals. Since she owns her publishing she can deny use of the original masters for any use, and direct Tv, film, radio, etc., to use her re-recordings which effectively chokes off and lessens the value of the originals. It's Taylors' world and stroopy John just happens to be touring the Italian part. Sorry if this offends the Bowie fans, not enough feeling in it to talk about the same old shit over and over and over and over again. Fuck off, early and often motherfuckers!

As a white male you can marginalize said young white female and frame it any way you wish, but no other privileged white male musician in the same predicament (Beatles, McCartney, Mellencamp, etc.,) has yet to the pull the same thing off.

Didn't Def Leppard talk about doing the exact same thing several years ago? I thought it was a terrible idea at the time, and thought the same when Taylor announced her intentions. But as you say, she's pulled it off. I doubt Def Lep could have (did they even try?). It really is pretty impressive, regardless of what one thinks of her music.

Pull what off? Conning the punter? Hell man,I am exhausted from the free Brittany campaign. I don't give a fuck about rich pop stars and their miserable bank balances. I am sure they all suffered for their art but I don't care if they want their music to be on a Volvo advert or get given the chance to re sell it because Steven Wilson touched it with magic fingers. It's unchecked egos, laughable entitlement issues and greed. |

If Bowie had done this, like his Bowie bonds, it would be lauded. Just cause it's a different setting doesn't invalidate the business move. Maybe if her landfilling old albums being replaced by the charity rack filling remastered versions now available make the poor love even richer then it's a win win for (drum roll) her. Maybe everyone else can just, I dunno go to the bank and demand their mortgage payment contracts are re-written or if they design their own credit card then that means they choose their own credit rating. With Spotify and Taylor's fans listening on Bluetooth headphones on mobiles the quality isnt an issue or noticed and the streamers now dictate the music's worth. It is and was a pointless exercise. Kudos to her for finding so many mugs. Then again, you tube influencers are more savvy. |
