The Fela doc was excellent. Nice to see so much first-hand testimony from friends, wives and band members - and no Bono or Grohl in sight. I had some idea about his political influence but didn't know so many in Nigeria were hanging on to his word. He was pulling serious crowds in the 80s.
What happened with his mother was shocking.

I watched a great documentary on the provincial public broadcaster (TVO) last night about photographer Sebastião Salgado, co-directed by Wim Wenders and Salgado's son. What a life.

Isn't it dreadful? All the spring taken out and replaced with thud. Ignorant buffoons.

BBC Four has the very excellent Fish Tank tonight at 11 pm I'd forgotten that it seemed they didn't know how to end it so there were three or four different endings, one after the other. It would have been a much better 90 minute film in my opinion. Still - really a fine film and the lead (Katie....) is wonderful.

Tonight's highlight is the new, authorised John Belushi documentary which you can see on Sky Documentaries at 9 pm. Apparently it aims to show his softer, more sensitive side, and deal less with the hellraising stuff which was a feature of the book Wired (and pretty much every other TV/film portrayal too, to be fair). Reviews are good. BBC Four have a string of repeated music docs from 9 pm, of which the highlight might be Reel Stories, a 30-minute thing with Rod Stewart sitting in a cinema seat alongside an interviewer, looking at and commenting on footage from his own life. It's actually pretty entertaining.

I don't find Belushi that interesting really. For me he's just a mildly talented comic actor who was in a few half decent films a long time ago.

It's the SNL thing.
I like him but I don't really get the praise.
