What is it with blokes and chilli? Am I the only who uses it selectively? No, and I don't really get the chilli sauce thing anyway. I'll use chilli in cooking, but I tend to use fresh chillies or chilli powder. What do you put these various chilli sauces ON?

I'm a bit amazed at how many condiments people have. I pretty much do with mayonaisse, dijon mustard, worcester sauce, seafood sauce, tartare sauce, mint sauce, horseradish, brown and tomato sauce and a chutney. That's quite a lot when I put it like that! But some of those things I'll only use with a particular meat. Three or four vinegars too, I bet. They're condiments

What I need and have is only mustard ( coarse and smooth), Ketchup, Mayonaise, a variety of vinegars and balsamico, and Sambal ( Indonesian chili paste with no sugar). But also gherkins, capers, and what we here call ' silver onions' which are tiny onions pickled in vinegar and some sugar.
What I have but don't need that much is the range of shit in jars and bottles that others in the household have bought because it looked realy nice but have inevitably shitloads of sugar in it. (even more than ketchup)
For the really nice condiments you basically need Mustard, Mayonaise, vinegars and a range of spices/herbs. With that you can make an awful lot of varieties.

I use this very good chili paste for some recipes, but that's about it really.

Well, they're great just for simple lunchtime things such as sausage butties, burgers, hotdogs, that kinda thing. And having a range of tastes/heats is always a good thing. It's also because I cook for four people regularly, with an age range from 13 to 74. And I'm not cooking two different versions of the same meal, so a dash of chilli sauce whle plating up is a great way of giving a curry or chilli a kick for individual tastes.

I usually don't use condiments except when making a good sandwich. Otherwise, i might use lemon, lime squeezed onto a dish to finish it.

Your grocery bill must be huge! I don't go through all of it every week. But to answer your question, my grocery bill is pretty high because I have the equivalent of a bear who doesn't hibernate in an 18 year-old male human being living with me. I keep telling him that he has another year or so where he can eat his weight in food and shed it so easily with his metabolism running so high and working out like he does. I started noticing that I couldn't eat like that when I hit my early 20s in my junior and senior year in college. Last night, he made a fairly big pizza. I usually have a small slice and he eats the rest.

Since everyone is mentioning it, I only use olive oil on my salads instead of dressing.
My brother-in-law has olive oil made from a small orchard he has at his home up north. I also have a specialty olive oil shop near where I live, but who knows if they're in business anymore with the pandemic.
My local supermarket has a good selection of flavored olive oils.
I also keep some chili oil in my pantry when I make stir fry.
