What is it with blokes and chilli? Am I the only who uses it selectively? I read somewhere that there's a relationship between men's use of chili and testicular size. The men who use more chili tend to have higher testosterone and a greater diameter in their ballsacks.

I do think there are some blokes, even if it's only on a subconscious level, that kinda believe that.
You don't get women going into curry houses saying "I'll have the strongest curry you can make", even though we have the same taste buds.

I do too. I've seen that phenomenon in England with Indian food. My wife and I took a trip to England and visited friends of her dad who had worked with him at Los Alamos. They lived in Reading and took us to an Indian restaurant there. They ordered what they thought was really hot food and looked at me when I'd eat it, their bald pates sweating from eating it themselves.. Some of it was hot, but not that hot, so they didn't get the response they were anticipating. I also learned how much the English could fucking drink on that trip. When the couple visited the Bay Area, we took them to a Giants' baseball game and they loved it.

I kind of find that behaviour a bit idiotic anyway. I mean what if you had found the food too hot..? All they'd have succeeded in doing was taking you out for a meal you didn't enjoy!

There's something to be said, however, for finding your upper limit and occasionally pushing it with a full blast curry that you can finish. It can be thrilling.

When I first got into curries at Uni as a 19-year-old in the late 1960s, I would sometimes order a phall - you don't see that on many menus today, a brutal thing – but nowadays a dhansak is about my limit. There was definitely an element of competition, along with the experimentation, back then

I have found there are roughly to kinds of hot/heat: Belly and throat/mouth
The belly one can cause some serious upset

I looked up 'aioli recipes' and the US ones were mainly 'add some crushed garlic to Hellmanns' One US recipe I saw earlier today for roast potatoes called for 'one envelope onion soup mix'

I looked up 'aioli recipes' and the US ones were mainly 'add some crushed garlic to Hellmanns' One US recipe I saw earlier today for roast potatoes called for 'one envelope onion soup mix' on the recent 'masterchef professionals' series, there were two chef challenges on the same show that i would have walked. a first for me, making aioli and a potato rosti. aioli is a simple recipe, but you need to be very careful not to split it. crush 4 garlic cloves with a teaspoon of salt until you get a paste and add a dash of lemon. then add olive oil very slowly.

Isn't there something else that goes in there? That just sounds like garlic mixed with olive oil.
