It seems like kids today are far more accepting of other "different" kids, and seem more willing as a group to defend people who want to let their freak flags fly; I think the flip side of the coin is that there seems to be less peer pressure, or at least less peer pressure to engage in destructive behavior. Or, maybe I'm just saying that because I have a teen at home, and it's some wishful thinking on my part. With 5 kids in the age of 24-31, I get that too. The accepting bit. At the same time though, I feel it’s like relativism going too far. It's the 'don't judge' thing. It freaks me out. We've thrashed it out here a couple of times already.

Nothing new to be learned. Regardless of the source.

you can judge all you want but what does it really do? does it do a goddam thing to the thing you're judging or does it just pile up like yellow waxy buildup on the floor of your personal happiness?
if it really changes things for the better then go for it. if it's just giving you ulcers then maybe stamp collecting would be a better hobby.

I can't speak for the US, but as far as the UK is concerned there's a lot of rose tinted spectacles here. Teach in an average UK school and I think some of you would be genuinely shocked at a lot of the behaviour. Yep. The only thing I'd say is that attitudes to the disabled and those with learning difficulties are not as harsh as they used to be. But otherwise, some kids are genuinely awful, with little or no manners and an absolute disregard for authority, powered by the fact that they know adults can really do little but detain them.
