Epicurious is my go-to site for recipes. I've rarely been let down by them, and they don't have a bunch of pointless crap you have to wade through before getting to the actual recipe.

We've started doing an A-Z of world cuisine on Saturday evenings, partly to try and encourage my son to try more varied foods than pizza/chicken nuggets and chips, and get involved with cooking, but also just to give me a chance to do something other than the same meals every week. Tonight was "D" and we chose Denmark, so did Frikadelller with Brunede Kartofler, using the recipes from this site www.favfamilyrecipes.com/frikadeller-danish-meatballs/

It looked better before I poured the sauce on top. Less turdy.

Improvised a really tasty veg lunch - thin-sliced garlicky mushrooms on wholemeal toast, half a courgette quartered and sliced and lightly fried in butter with dill seeds, and half a hispi cabbage shredded and steamed for five minutes, then seasoned with a little salted butter and a lot of black pepper. Fucking A

I made chicken risotto for tea. Chucked in some lardons, some thyme and rosemary and added some parmesan at the end. You can't go wrong with risotto can you? All it takes is a bit of time and effort and after work it's good to just focus on stirring the rice around in the pot. Meditative like. I'm trying to live in the moment a bit more.
Tomorrow I'm getting my roof fixed at last - 5 leaks, yay - but I've heard about a bakery that does very good croissants so I might pop along and test the almond ones. If they are good I'll be a recurring customer. There's not much I won't do for an almond croissant.

We had chicken risotto too. Cut up a leek, added the chicken from yesterday's roast along with the stock and wild garlic leaves. Delicious.

Made oven-fried chicken last night, which I doused generously with honey. It set off the smoke alarm (terrible ventilation in here and no fan above the stove) It was absolutely delicious and I will be doing this again. Easy, quick and delicious, a difficult combination to outdo. Served with asparagus, green beans and baby corn. Later, I got a craving for something sweet, so I made a batch of brownies. I'm trying my best to gain weight, but it's been difficult. I still have to gain about 20lbs. Tonight will be even simpler. I'm salivating at the thought of having mashed potatoes, which I haven't made in eons, for whatever reason. May just have that with more asparagus, carrots and 2 or three sausages. Yes, I still have a couple of brownies left.

Mash tatties is one of those foods where you feel you have it once a week, every week. A real treat.
I had sausage and mash the other night and it was lush.
