Peter gets all the credit but the Test Tube Babies have all the talent. I think I'm going to give this one to A both for the harmonikle & because I'd probably find something worth stealing in his record collection.

I saw Peter Case tour this album, opening for Crowded House's first tour. I liked the album at the time and his only co-musician on stage was a bongo player. This album is very self-righteously strident, and while I like Case, this has not aged well.

i really like the plimsouls but i've never been keen on case's solo output, it's the kind of singer-songwriter shit that the two daves bust a nut over.
good to see some 'oi' in the cup. not one of my favourite oi bands but it sounds exciting alongside the drab case pick.

Case was more interesting in the Plimsouls..This sounds like he's competing with Billy Joel for listeners..Prefer the busier nature of the second track..
Vote B

A was a bit rote, but at least it was lively. You could say much the same thing about B actually. Bbecause it's third division punk that has enough about it ( the urgent guitar lines) to promote it to the second division.

I struggled with A. After skipping part of it he was still on the same note.
B if only for the great blast of white noise.

A
I enjoyed both, but I loved the Plimsouls and have followed Peter Case. I love his voice. Like Weller, never understood why his future could not include his band.
I was a big reader of Sounds during the Bushell years, which was quite hard to actually do in the US at the time, Melody Maker and NME, Smash Hits, Kerrang, etc., enjoyed much better distribution. Haven't heard this in along time, I guess my import singles, e.p.s are worth something.

A was alright. New to me
B was a lot of fun. The backing vocals had me in stitches. Great guitar sound though.

A is fine, a bouncy, bluesy rock tune that i wouldn't mind if it came up on the radio... but not something i'd really search out. That kind sums up how i feel about a lot of solo Case. B feels a bit more up my usual alley, great guitar sound, good energy.

A seems like the type of guy whose fans think he should be way bigger than he is, but he just sounds like a dressed up busker to me.
B is okay, but feels much longer than its three and a half minutes.
I dunno.
Coin toss says B.

Hard to be too objective about A. I don't think I actually sat in on any of the recording of it, but was definitely in its orbit at the time it was done. As a solo artist this was his big shot - major label backing, lots of celebs involved, tons of positive press - I was happy for him but honestly way prefer his later work. The one after this is particularly good.
If I'm completely honest, both of these kind of make their point early and go on longer than they have to. Strange to say that about songs under 4 minutes, but making either under 2:30 would've been enough to get my vote. Otherwise, got to resort to sentiment.

B is feeble.

Both nice picks and quite similar in their structure, simple and enjoyable. I'll give it to the one involving real musicians rather than kids playing their instruments for the second time.

Peter Case
The type of inoffensive and pointless stuff you’d expect a local guy opening up for a mid-tier Amecican(t)a band to plop out. Another drink anyone?
Peter and the Test Tube Babies
My Dad used to read my NME’s in the mid 80s. When he came across P&tTTB’s Rotting in the Fart Sack whilst looking at the Indie chart it made him laugh.
