a really strong tie this one, and about time too after the recent dross we've had to put up with.
the holman track is new to me and i liked it a lot, so thanks to whoever chose it.
the equals are a really underrated band and not the one-hit wonder many think they are, so it's a little disappointing to see them being represented by the one track of theirs that everyone knows. i don't like to reward the obvious, but 'baby come back' is so joyful that it would melt the heart of even the most cynical.
bad luck B.

I agree almost to the word with what I LUV RAY has written. I just haven't such a strong objection to its obviousity

I guess everyone here likes Baby Come Back, including me, but that's a really safe cup pick. I can't vote for it on principle of wanting to hear something new, something different.
I guess B is getting lucky here, because this really isn't my kinda thing. Sounds competent enough, if uninteresting to me, but it's a deep enough cut to avoid an abstain.

Really like the Equals and I know this was a big hit, but I might have gone with one of their other tracks ("Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys" perhaps)..The second track is kinda boring..Vote A

A is so much the safe Equals pick that I can't reward it. Hearing a comp by them I was surprised by how many great songs they had. Any of them probably would've taken this one.
B is unfamiliar. The arrangement is slightly wet, but he sings the hell out of it. Good enough.

Both okay, not great. The youth club stomp of The Equals track has enthusiasm, but it becomes a little wearisome and it's pretty shallow stuff. B is an altogether classier affair, but I do find it's arrangement rather too chinzy and middle of the road. It must have sounded dated in 1970, but the conviction of the vocal gives it the victory here.

Good match. I'm not marking down The Equals here - great band and cut - but i am marking up the Eddie Holman, which is a lovely pick from a fine album.

I have always liked BCB, and still do, but B did more for me right now, even if I try not to take into account the familiarity of the Equals track.

I was being flippant Os in my earlier comment, but I do think "cheesy" is an adjective tossed around too readily, which isn't the same thing as saying it's never appropriate.

I'm a bit bored by both tunes, but I'll give it to A just for being a bit more lively.

Loved the Eddie Holman track, never heard anything by him before so it's one to investigate, thanks to whoever posted it. No disrespect to the equals who I've always liked but as remarked by others, everyone knows it and something like I get so excited could have been a better choice.

both are very good but I like A a million times better. I don't get the "safe choice" complaint. when I hear it I immediately think WOW! I haven't heard that one for a while!!!

I much prefer B. A is overplayed, and to be honest, I think it's rubbish. B is new to me. I can imagine Elvis singing it in Vegas, so, an easy
