All I know about Idles is that the No Wave facebook group hates them, along with Black midi, and has banned all posts about them. So I guess they crossover to the experimental side, but are generally to mainstream indie for the cynical old buggers. This is actually better than I was expecting, though there's a touch of Sleaford Mods about those vocals, a forced Johnny Rottenness. That high-pitched guitar riff is nice though, and it does have a certain appeal. It almost reminds me of a big-budget production version of those early UK Decay singles, distinctive guitar tone, good bass, over-confident annoying singer.
I'm guessing that this isn't the Justin Broadrick/Kevin Martin industrial hip-hop Ice? I mean, it just seems fairly unlikely. This is a standard mid-60s pop rock song that has a kind of warm Bee-Geesy hook. Not realy my cup of tea, and really outstays its welcome.

A has "energy", that's what you're meant to say with these things, right? It's also pretty ugly and cumbersome.
B is nothing revelatory, but its a sweet tune and the odd Psych touches in the arrangement keep things interesting. Like a bubblegum Procol Harum.

Both pretty nondescript and unexciting, though B has a nice fadeout. And is more 'my kind of thing,' of course. A does well in critics polls, right? I feel like I always see their name in year end top-25s. Does it go anywhere new? Not to my ears.

Idles are stunningly awful. Really, really bad. I think they're EVEN WORSE than Sleaford Mods and I never want to hear anything by them again.

I really enjoyed the instrumental bits of B, but the sung verses were a bit shit. Not as shit as A, though. Ugly, ugly stuff.

I'm keener on melody than on sheer power, so I enjoyed B with its nice little flourishes a whole lot more than A

No way I would listen to A outside the cup. It can fuck right off.
The sound of B is a bit annoying, probably the youtube copy fault. Not good enough to check somewhere else, anyway I wouldn't bother to play it again. Its winning here has more to do with A merits.

Idles are trying to be Interpol..The music almost gets there, but the vocal does not..Kinda annoying..B just isn't my thing, so Idles lucks out..Vote A

Punk for the Coldplay generation (‘? Bedwetter punk’) or inoffensive 60s pop.
Tough call (lolz)

B reminds me of all those Fake 60's bands from the 90's like Beachwood Sparks or those Elephant 6 bands. I don't HATE the first one but I agree that the vocals don't do it any favors.

A was vile. B was ok but stuff like this was two a penny in the late sixties and is fairly undistinguished.
B - reluctantly.

A - what did Exeter do to deserve this, I wonder. B starts well but the more it goes on the more plastic it feels. Still,
