Neil Diamond has a 'flavor' about him. It's usually that strumming thing, and it's always such a masculine point of view. I would probably never sing a Neil Diamond song in karaoke. I think it would be too corny. But I probably WOULD sing this one. It's just a good piece of lightweight pop. You could put it on as a way to say 'I'm sorry' and it would work. If you put a Neil Diamond song on, she'd leave.

Can't paste vids at the moment for some reason, but 'Holly Holy' is about 1000 times better.

I have no shame in saying i love a bunch of his early hits. Classics: The Early Years is wonderful.

The act of doing it, not the song itself (I think)

There was some Shirley Bassey thing on the BBC last night and they showed a duet with ND - they were virtually on top of each other. Absolute filth

Yeah, as Coan says, I want to be able to get behind it. A lot of Neil Diamond stuff, I'd just feel like I was doing a cheesy retro thing. The temptation towards mugging, hip-swaying and the like (again the masculine aroma of his music) is too great!

Before his late 70s treacle, Neil definitely had messianic pretensions, grand gestures, major chord epic-ness, big empty worded profundity, he would have loved to have been 70s Springsteen.
