I encountered the pride thing everywhere, it wasn't just an impression gleaned from occasional meetings. Everybody said 'we have the best (whatever) here in Spain'. I thought it was a joke at first! but no. That really fucked me off after a while.
Yeah, I recognize that, and I hate it too. The funny thing is that when left alone often the conversation turns to 'what a piece of shit this country is'.

At their worst, all of those. I encountered the pride thing everywhere, it wasn't just an impression gleaned from occasional meetings. Everybody said 'we have the best (whatever) here in Spain'. I thought it was a joke at first! but no. That really fucked me off after a while. And the noise is just strange, the way people converse, the way they behaved on the Metro, unreasonably loud! Kids HOWLING, indulged by parents, nobody bothers. But....some of the friendliest people I've met, for sure, and entertaining, gregarious company often. that's pretty much spot on. i think the pride thing and noise is even more amplified in valencia. like you say, very friendly people. quite caring really.

I'm not sure how strictly you stick to lesson plans, A, but one thing I liked about doing in-company classes is that they never had a problem going off-topic and just chatting. Typically the students had a lot to say about a lot of things, and were happy to share. It could last the whole 60 or even 90 minutes.
Of course this can happen anywhere (I'm saying this before I'm accused of the terrible crime of generalising) but in my experience it was more typical behaviour in Spain.

This thread is about London, not John and Adam's irrelevant droning on about language students.
We're not interested.
