My ten bob...
Zappa-I can tolerate bits of 'Freak Out' and quite like 'Hot Rats'. I've tried with a few others and I just find him insufferably smug.
Joni- I get how talented she is and that ..I used to own 'Court and Spark' and quite enjoyed it, but since getting rid (along with the rest of my vinyl, years ago) I've never felt the urge to hear it again. I've tried with the supposed 'classic' 'Blue' and it's just fingernails down a blackboard for me...I can't warm to that voice at all.
Steely Dan? Meh..quite like bits of the first couple.
Nick Cave-Loved the Birthday Party and his earlier Bad Seeds stuff. Not so bothered about his later stuff, although I do really like 'Push the Sky Away'.
Love Dexys, but then I'm a Brit who was 12/13 when they first appeared. I appreciate them more than ever now.
Big Joy Division fan. Like New Order quite a bit, but never been a rabid fan. Kind of hard to escape, being a Manc though. I live literally 5 minutes walk from the original Factory Records office (the one that now has a blue plaque on the outside. I met Alan Erasmus there when I was taking a pic the othe year....had a good chat.) Up the road from me in Withington, there are murals of Tony Wilson and Peter Saville(!) On the walls of shops and businesses, so all that stuff is kind of in our blood.
Bowie - Almost faultless from 'Space Oddity ' to 'Scary Monsters'. Not that interested in anything after that...
Apart from 'American Girl', Tom Petty just isn't on my radar at all...
Roxy -Love the first 4 or 5 and Eno's first 4. No interest after that. Ferry always seemed a bit of a tool
Can't think of anyone else...

Agree with nearly everything there, especially what you say about Zappa, Joni and the Dan, although I prefer later Nick Cave to his earlier stuff. Birthday Party I can barely tolerate.
