why's anyone interested in anything?
because it's very famous very rich rockstars trying to look humble while talking about their 'journey'
because they do sometimes have interesting and insightful things to say
and it beats watching Sunday Brunch!

I was thinking 'ah I reckon at least some of this'll be pretty good'. But no, it's the usual 'unplugged and up our arses' rubbish you get from rockers who've long since run out of ideas.

Yeah,an understandable attempt to stay relevant, keep playing music (which they possibly still enjoy doing), and keep some moolah rolling in. Plus Bono has a autobiography out... or am i being cynical.

They're doing something at Vegas without Larry as well.
Apparently they have a couple of albums already in the can and they think they are "good" (of course they do) so I have no idea why you'd bother with such a project.
They went wrong after Pop at least. The saddest thing is that they still have some need to be "relevant" and sell 10 million copies of an album when they should have followed the path laid down by Zooropa in the 2nd half of their career. Funny to think that's now 30 years ago.

I really don't like Elevation. Beautiful Day felt a bit too contrived and slick, ditto Stuck In A Moment. Good songs but something was lost in the mixing. I was very let down by All That You Can't Leave Behind although there is some good stuff on there. It just felt over produced to the point where they sucked the life out of the songs. I know U2 have always wanted to be huge but at this point you feel the band started to seriously over think things which I believe is the biggest problem they've had since Pop.
They've certainly had individual moments since Pop but you sense this tension between them wanting to still sell millions and appeal to younger listeners and the band actually going with their instincts and leaving things rawer and more spontaneous. Everything seems over produced plus they don't appear to know what their best songs are anymore. There's been some good stuff that was just casually thrown out as singles that is better than the stuff they were putting on albums (Electrical Storm, Window in the Skies) and there is unreleased stuff too that I prefer (Stateless, Mercy) which suggests that for a period after the 90s there was still a creative spark, albeit unfocused and scattered.
You know what I really wish they'd do? Revisit Pop and release some special edition that includes some of the session stuff before they mixed it. It's clear they had something quite different to what was finally (rush) released. Something much rawer and interesting here (check out the snippet of Playboy Mansion as an example):

'Beautiful Day' is a phenomenon, I kind of admire them for it. It's the soundtrack to half the world's lives, almost as big as a planet itself, everyone knows it.
And it steals from A-ha!

I bet even G, on a good day, wakes up with a spring in his step, has a large cup of coffee, exits the house, stares up at a blue London sky and sings "It's a beautiful daaaaaaaa-aaaaaa-aaaay! Don't let it get awaaaaaaay!"
