It isn't your politics or pro vaccination or anti vaccination stance or your religion etc. It is the reasons that so many people arrive where they do in their views. I am not saying what I believe is right and everyone is wrong. I am just saying that there is so much, I dunno, stupidity and nimbyism and intolerance these days. I fucking despair. As Dougie says, what a world.

I’m trying to move from despair to simply enjoying the fucking absurdity of it all.
The last 18 months or so have certainly given me moments of despair but there’s nothing you can do about it so there really is no point in worrying about it.

Same here. The reasons why people arrive at the views they have are bewilderingly complex and varied.
It can be infuriating, but at the same time group think in the 'right' manner only leads, ultimately, to a paucity of thinking because no-one is challenging what you believe.
I'd rather live in a world where there is a consistent challenge to my way of thinking than one where there isn't.

I just find myself shaking my head and keeping my thoughts to myself in company.

I sort of look at both sides of whatever the current news is , covid or immigration etc. You always seem to meet total nutters and instant entrenched views. The argument nearly always splits into two camps and by nature they are little more than circle jerks. I guess preludin is a bit of change.

I guess we all have to do that but some find it easier than others and of course you don’t always want to get into a discussion because it could backfire. The other day at work somebody said something so fucking absurd I almost spat my tea out but what can you do? Just grimace and bear it.

My world's fine. I find that opting out of rolling about in the swill of news and opinions about things and outcomes that disappoint you and that you can do nothing about allows you to keep a perspective and makes it easier to choose your own illusions, and enjoy and embrace the life you have, but I've been saying that on forums for a decade or so and no one has taken it on board yet, so maybe that's just me. Heigh ho

Ray's sentiments are essentially in the right direction. If you allow yourself to get caught up in the news cycle it can drag you down. Concentrate on what is in front of you in the here and now. What, objectively, can you do about events that are outside of your control? In most cases, absolutely nothing.

I dunno Toby, rage against the dying of brain cells or howl at the moon made of cheese while the flat earth you live on slowly dies.

Choose not to engage with the world if you choose, or take the whole lot which will come at you, good or bad, at any time.

But as usual the lack of definitions in the OP means we've got different unrelated points of view being presented here as if they're conflicting
