But it is, John. It's all just noise. you don't have to listen. Zen Master. I agree with Ray. I just occasionally steer from the path of inner peace and slosh around in the trenches. I really should know better.

you're tenacious, I'll give you that He has a point. There is a relief in watching a real human being on youtube cut through the bullshit and lies of the media. It reminds you that people out there can see through the crap you know? There is something cathartic about it.

By that I read that you choose the channels that present the worldview you want to hear. That's a big problem these days. People choose the narrative they believe and then look for the media to confirm it.

There is a sense that "mainstream" sources of media, particularly TV, have ossified to a certain extent. They all look the same, they all have the same sorts of people who look the same, and they churn out a particular narrative. It began in the 90s and has reached a zenith now.
I've not watched "the news" in years because of it.

But this is just another standard view, really. I read that kind of thing on Twitter all the time.
There's also the idea that the news actually works for some people to pacify them. Their lives feel better for having watched atrocities. A lot of old folk are like that - tut-tutting over News At Ten and then turning to their pal and saying 'isn't it terrible?' and then moving on to talk about Mrs. Quiff at number 9. It's consolation.

I've not watched "the news" in years because of it. It goes beyond that though, especially in America. It's not just outright misinformation and lies, it's propaganda. You see similar things with the BBC in how they report certain issues too now which is partly why people are turning off them too.

Mrs Quiff doesn't keep her step clean and she had that darkie lodger when Billy was away with the merch. Never with a pinny on but lipstick , oh yes.

It's the bread and butter of both the Mail and the Guardian, telling their constituencies that everything is terrible. They differ only in what things they think are wrong, and (mostly) who's responsible.

If you are not hip by now that ALL the MSM are huge liars then you are lost, a zombie, a cog in their machine. By what the bastards do say and especially by what they don't say make them utter, utter liars. OTOH, The alt news guys I enjoy are just humans doing their best to help me make sense of all the crap I'm told by the MSM. Some do suck. But there are special ones who actually do the jobs the MSM are supposed to do - but are paid not to.

OTOH, The alt news guys I enjoy are just humans doing their best to help me make sense of all the crap I'm told by the MSM. Some do suck. But there are special ones who actually do the jobs the MSM are supposed to do - but are paid not to. I used to be a Media Studies lecturer so I am not naive about the mainstream media. I've studied media theory, media ownership, narrative theory etc. so am very aware of the ways in which we are manipulated. But your naive binary separation of media into the "good guys" and the "bad guys" is woefully simplistic. It works for you only in that it provides a confirmation of your existing beliefs which obviously gives you some comfort and superiority. But that has nothing to do with the truth (a contentious term at the best of times). Scepticism of the mainstream media is healthy, a default position of "they're lying to us - always" is unhealthy and ultimately leads to anti- vaccine dopes, climate change deniers and so on. I used to teach documentary techniques and news techniques, especially with regard to 'what do they do that makes us believe them'. For example if I was making a video on the increase in something, that I'd already forewarned was a 'problem', and showed some graphs accompanied by an authoritative voice over reaffirming that, indeed, it was a problem, you'd be more likely to accept it because the use of statistics indicates a fact, despite you not knowing if the figures being shown are in any way accurate. I can assure you that alternative media is rife with such techniques. One more thing proper investigative journalism is expensive, it needs paid people on the ground for a long period of time, it requires legal expertise. One guy behind his computer screen relying on Google is not investigative journalism.
