Every other year I have to teach a bunch of people that Beethoven's 3rd is EROICA not EROTICA
Ever since I heard an employee trying to sell Beethoven's Erotica I make a really big deal about it just in case.
Song's not ALL that bad. It's no Beethoven.

The Vinegar Joe is a terribly generic blues rock song, but no worse than some random song off a Free or Nazareth album..there was a lot of this stuff around in the 70s! The spirited performance redeems it somewhat. It's no Karel Fialka anyway!

What you call a 'spirited performance' is what, for me, takes it from the 'quite bad' into the 'absolutely fucking nightmarish' class. Elkie Brooks doing a kind of sub-Joplin 'one of the guys' thing, face scrunched up, squawking lyrics from a light-ale-soaked corner of hell. And Palmer grinning, strumming, singing along, thinking they've got a cool tune. No, this is no Nazareth, this is a steaming, stinking turd.

Sham 69 were dreadful generally weren't they? Yeah. Actually I kind of like that one, but it's really terrible (if that makes sense!). 'no I don't want a cup of tea' sang like it was the utmost act of rebellion. Not a bright bunch of lads.

This seems to be shown on every retrospective of The Old Grey Whistle Test I've seen. I've always thought it would be very BCB-core, and it is an absolute abomination.

Geez that's bad. Just a lifeless lump of a song.

I watched a Simple Minds doc last night. Their 90s stuff was appalling.
Chrysalis refused to release a couple of their albums during that decade, they were so bad. Imagine that! I mean, those sorts of bands always have a following, old timers sticking with them through thick and thin - you'd expect any old shit to sell a few tens of thousands....but NO

I'd be interested to see that.

Ah it's just a series of documentaries Sky Arts put out - they're all called Discovering: xxxx, and they're mostly presented by the same folk every time. There are hundreds of them now.
The funny thing is, one bald dude wears a suit and tie for the film docs, and a leather jacket with the collar turned up for the rock docs!
