I love Paris 1919 but it didn't have a CHANCE. I've loved Transformer too dearly for too long. serendipity anyone? I think it's a GRATE record.

They are both masterpieces, but I'm giving this to the Welshman.

Transformer has some great tracks, but it's not a masterpiece.
Paris 1919 is Cale's best work by a considerable distance.

Neither.
I don't think I've ever used the word, masterpiece, un-ironically.
These are both underfed. I'll go with Berlin and Vintage Violence.

Wow, tough choice. Both very close to my heart and both masterpieces in my world. I would tend to say that Transformer is better, and gets my vote. But if I had to play one right now it would be Cale's.

Transformer is a mostly very good, sometimes great collection of songs but it's a bit top heavy and it fades a bit towards the end with some frivolousness.
1919 has an atmosphere and cohesiveness that Transformer doesn't quite have. It's a very warm, evocative record, bathed in autumnal colours with a nostalgic lyrical Britishness that is both evocative and moving.
Cale ftw

The solo-peak for both artists.
I think the Cale record feels more timeless listening today. Transformer is really kind of a time-machine. That’s not a bad thing.
I could opt for either in the right mood.

Difficult choice but I'll take Cale. Reed's is wonderfull but not as much a whole, and rounded record like 1919.
