From adam: 1951 has to be hank williams, 'cold, cold heart'.
still fresh.
Also, as rock around the clock has been outed as a 1954 release, he's shifting that to this year

1951Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats - Rocket 88
I had a sort-of pal who played sax in a band called Rocket 88. They weren't at all bad. I own the only known recording of them, the legendary Tiverton Tapes.
Prior to going to university (where I met him) he was a beatnik poet, bus conductor and junkie in Torquay, afterwards had a thirty-odd year career as teacher in a coed public school - in the town I currently live in, though we never overlapped - and formed several bands from the students there, playing 50s and 60s vocal group sounds, and went about hoovering up post-graduate degrees - two masters and a PhD last time I heard. He turns 80 this year.
I ought to get around to writing about him one day.

Let's hear it for Gershwin, Porter and Berlin Discogs has I Got Rhythm as 1930, and Night and Day as 1933, so I'm putting them in those years.
