I didn't realize the Dorsey track was actually released in Dec. '43. Should I rethink my selection?

This has slowed down a bit - well, a lot - in the last three weeks, but I still think it's a worthwhile exercise. There's some fine stuff on here already, but there could be more, especially from the early 1950s. I think that few of us share the widespread view among our generations that music began with the Beatles or Elvis, and some are actually 'into' jazz, roots, country blues and R&B, so please do contribute if you can. I'm stickying this for a while in an attempt to drum up some more interest. Please note that, while the early 1950s follows the same one pick per year rule of the main canon, in earlier years, if someone finds two or three or even more they want to pick, the duplicate goes in anyway. This is what we have so far: preludin.proboards.com/thread/6519/1950-54preludin.proboards.com/thread/6520/before-1950

I’m gonna do a pick for every year going back at least to the 30s. I just need time to work it out. The grab bag nature of this thread makes the job daunting. It is easier to just name a track from 1947…then one from 48…

Cab Calloway - Hep Hep (The Jumpin' Jive)
1939 is the year the song was first released, but what I actually mean is this incredible version with the Nicholas Brothers, from the 1943 film Stormy Weather:

1950
Not an easy year, not many things to my taste and some of the hits I liked were released the previous year. Then I found this lovely number that I had on a cheap Robins comp and definitely deserves its place here.
Johnny Otis Quintette and Little Esther - Double Crossing Blues
