I have been instructed by Mr Lemon: The song is Faithful Departed by Moving Hearts. For the bold broth of a boy, Markus.

I have been instructed by Mr Lemon: The song is Faithful Departed by Moving Hearts. For the bold broth of a boy, Markus. There's something about Irish music and mixing it with other music that just doesn't sit right with me. I don't know what it is. Outside of the pogues and a few other rare examples, it just doesn't work for me anyway. When i hear of bands that are a 'fusion' of celtic, rock and afro beats etc, i immediately want to vomit. This tune isn't as bad as that, but it's forgettable to me. God bless christy, he'll try nearly anything.

It was written by Philip Chevron when he was in The Radiators before he joined the Pogues. If you don't like "fusion" in Irish music, what Irish traditional music would you recommend?

Good job i didn't say it was a irish folk song then. I said "Irish music and mixing it with other music that just doesn't sit right with me". That's a pop song, with a very noted Irish folk singer with elements of Irish music instruments in it. It just isn't my thing. I'm far from an trad expert. Then it goes how old school do you want go? The popular songs you hear on paddy's day? back further to the likes of luke kelly? back further again with sean-nos?

I'm no expert either, just curious to hear of anything that you did like or would recommend. Which is partly the point of this thread. My first gig was The Dubliners in Glasgow when I was 5 or 6.
