The whole Barbie vs. Oppenheimer meme was clearly a boon for Oppenheimer.

Just watched Oppenheimer on Imax at Liverpool One. In some ways, it's a very old-fashioned film, in that it's largely dialogue between white men in suits. Despite that, the editing and script try to make it feel fast-paced, and the first hour feels like it's trying to cram a lot in. There seems to be too much effort to make each line a scene-stealing soundbite, all hard-bitten wit and steely glares. But I thought it was largely otherwise pretty damned good, and the cast are all at the top of their game. The build up to the Trinity test is handled beautifully, it imparts a sense of the enormity of what was about to happen, in the full and proper sense of that word; it genuinely made me feel a physical unease.
Downsides: the Strauss political wrapper isn't interesting to me as a Brit, and I think Tom Conti is always shit.

would you say it's worth the extra few bucks to see it in IMAX? (I love IMAX)

My eldest (20) has seen Barbie 3 times and loves it. She saw Oppenheimer once and liked it.
The youth have spoken.

I seen Oppenheimer last night and found it good but not nolan's best work. It was just a little unbalanced in little things throughout. In the first ten minutes the word fusion appears on the screen, so i'm thinking (rightly or wrongly) that nolan's gonna use the different steps of making the bomb or what happens in the bomb as kinda chapter headings for different parts of the film. The word fission appears a few minutes later and then that's the last one you see. Maybe it had a purpose that went over my head, i'll take that if that's the case. The leading cast were all very good but it's the back ground characters that steal the show when you figure out who's who. I say that because nolan introduces characters and frames them as prominent then they disappear and reappear out of nowhere. You end up wondering, just what part did they have to play. There's a guy called teller who appears to be the smartest out of the lot but doesn't get enough time on screen IMHO. The film never drags but you do feel the length of the film as it goes in to it's final hour. Nolan fits a lot in but the science never goes over your head, a feat in itself. Murphy is brilliant and will probably be up for an oscar, RDJ is........RDJ. I sometimes felt like i was watching Ironman in court such was the lack of difference in performances between the two films. Nolan couldn't leave a time gimmick out of this no matter how much he tried. There's a bit with Einstein that just went over my head, no point lying. There also seems to be a lot of TV actors from some of my favorite shows in it as well. Shows like Blue bloods, band of brothers/The Orville, The Boys and Drake & Josh LOL.
Like i said it's not his best film, but it's still very good. Murphy will keep you entertained and engaged.

I mean I could get a book out of the library, but I was hoping to short circuit the process.

Nolan should have made him the boss of the Manhattan Project. And maybe added a car chase.

Schwarzenegger would have nailed Teller, right accent for him too. "Your atomic bomb is a pussy, only my hydrogen bomb has the big balls!"
