Pointless film the more i think about it. A film at the end of the day about nothing. It's a film about robbing banks during The Great Depression. The 'point' is to cast them as anti-establishment rebels, which obviously had a great appeal in the 60s. The two leads are great in it, as are Gene Hackman and Michael J Pollard.

Concerning THEIR story, it is a pointless film.

Concerning THEIR story, it is a pointless film. You would have to explain what you mean by that.

First thing that strikes me is that it's just a beautiful film to look at with the shot selection and the sleek black and white. The shot selection still strikes me as very 1940's, like if you didn't know better you'd think it was from that era. The acting was all up to scratch as expected, when you think about it, he condensed a lot in to it, so much so that jake meeting his brother at the end out of nowhere looked forced. Still a brilliant film on my 3rd or 4th time of watching. One of the greats.

A team of men take over a train carriage with automatic weapons and hostages and the lead character throughout the whole thing acts like it's something that it's an inconvenience. Matthau's nonchalant take on the hero kinda ruins the film, if he doesn't give a fuck why should the viewers? The rest of the cast put in the effort, and i kinda felt bad for Shaw who was putting in the effort but getting nothing off Matthau. It was enjoyable enough without being memorable. One thing about US 70's films, no one, no one, can do a death by gunshot without looking hammy. I don't know if one acting teacher got everyone to act like this, but it's hilarious.

Matthau is fucking A in that film. A triumph and a revelation.
Great piece of cinema, too.

Pointless film the more i think about it. A film at the end of the day about nothing. If you know the basics of their story, this film address the bare minimum of it. 2 takes aways 1. Dunaway just oozed sex appeal, from the first frame to before her character got killed it's just "DEEEEEEAM". She had to be the sexist woman in hollywood at that time, ridiculous. 2. If anyone can point to a film where beatty shows any, ANY, acting ability, you win a week free in Coan's AirBnB. I just don't see it any anything i've watched of his. Kaleidoscope and Hairspray.
