I guess I am lucky in Greece, with food in general. Pastries and cakes all seem to have a taste depending on the bakery. Similar to how you would be able to tell the difference in other chippies batter or chips. In the U.K , you are more likely to have little difference in the supermarket ranges. In a lot of places in Europe the pastry section tends to be supplied by a certain bakery. So you can go to the same branch in one place but many things, such as pastries taste different. Lists like these are pointless, it often is a case of where their supplier is, rather than the rustic store front and ambience. The best bread on our island , pastries too come from the most unlikely places. When I lived in the u.k, egg custards were the litmus test. A bit passé these days J, it's all about Portugese tarts now.
