The cream of UK session players? Be still my beating heart, I'm SOLD! Clem Cattini, Danny Thompson, Harold McNair etc. You should be sold. These guys are on a different level, they're not American college students pissing about!

Look, I love Danny Thompson, that's well documented. But I've never bought an album and thought "I hope there are some great session musicians on this". I don't mind some Donovan, either. But Devendra was a huge talent who pretty much suffered for how big he became so quickly. What makes him a college student pissing around?
There aren't many people who become world famous via sending demo tapes to Michael Gira, or even collaborating with Antony and The Johnsons. The guy had something.

That's about as impressive as being discovered by Keith Chegwin or something.

opening for 2007
Another poor year for me where nothing really stands out, so again I'm refraining from nominating.

LOADS of good stuff.
Does nobody look up NME/Pitchfork/RS lists for the year we're supposed to be thinking about? Or is it still this infantile 'OOOH NO NOT PITCHFORK!' attitude? It's a starting point if nothing else.

that arctic monkeys track you've picked is rubbish btw. It sounds like The Ordinary Boys or something, real indie landfill. No one over 15 should be listening to that stuff.

It's great! but I didn't expect anything else from you, G write something about it then if it's so good. I can't stand that cod ska and those 'provincial' vocals where you sing about eating a bag of chips. It's like George Formby fronting No Doubt when they were a fourth wave ska band.

I do look up lists to remind myself and I also have a spreadsheet with choice albums I liked at the time.
2007 was one of the better years with a few things that pop into my head. Panda Bear's Person Pitch, In Rainbows, Battles Mirrored, Caribou and Deerhoof.....
Of course the best thing was Kids by MGMT which is my choice.

I'm quite prepared to learn I missed out on something genuinely interesting -some very singular singer songwriter or interesting jazz experiment, but it won't be coming from some mainstream band like The Arctic Monkeys.
