Picking the album from 2009 is a breeze, but choosing just one song from something that's very much an album is a bit more of a challenge. But I guess I'll go with the establishing track from a very brave record.
2009:
Kettering - Antlers

2009
Actually don't have many contenders for 2009, Curse ov Dialect and C93 were close again, and The Balky Mule could've been there but I've not heard that album in ages. Not sure where my copy is, to be fair. So I'm going to pick a bonus track off a Zola Jesus album, which sounds like it could've been an outtake from a 1979 SPK demo. But I love it, there's a gorgeous pop hook about the vocal, buried beneath all the echo and feedback and clatter and stuff.

2009
"Keep the streets empty for me" Fever Ray
Went back and forth between this and the fuzzy shoegaze of "Quick Canal" by Atlas Sound..Went with atmosphere over noise..

My son has only ever bought me one record, Fever Ray, he was in a record store with a friend and the album was playing. "This sounds like the kind of thing my dad would like" he allegedly declared. He was right.

2009
Not many records that I know and like from this year. I'll pick this
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
I can't say it's canonical, but I reckon that ship departed a few years back. Anyway, it's a nice piece of pop music IMO. Unsure if this band falls on the right side of the acceptability line.

2010 White Ring - Ixc999 Another great year in my view, with Joanna Newsom, The Ex, and Olof Arnalds being the main contenders for the year. In fact, it's hard to argue against Joanna Newsom's "In California" being the greatest song released that year, but I've already picked her twice. Instead, I'm going for something which really encapsulated and defined the sound of the short-lived witch house genre. Cheap fuzzy electronics influenced by EBM, 4AD, and life-threatening narcotics.

Let's move this on quickly. Open for 2010 and 2011I may well be wrong, and don't have the time to check, but weren't we going to stop this at 2010?
I'm way behind, both in voting and summarising (I'll try to sort out the latter today), but the last few years we've been in single figures for nominations.
Would be good to have a catch-up period, where people can check out dayo's excellent summary and fill in gaps before we start to implement your idea of separate threads (and possiby voting) on the nominations in individual years.

To be honest Ray I want to crack on as I feel things are already dragging on as it is, especially with the declining interest. i'll continue it to 2020 and we'll stop there.

I should also say that the last thread will be a 'wild card' thread where everyone will have the chance to nominate one extra track for any year. i'll leave it open for a few weeks which will also give people a chance to also add a track if they've missed out on any of the years.

Now that I'm feeling a bit better, I'll try to update that summary page and the contenders summation page..Some time this week, most likely..
