2010
There are a few tracks I could've chosen from this album, but I think this one deserves the nod:

"Harmonics (Genius of love)" Mi Ami
Still confused by the 21st century naysayers..Started with a list of 30 wide ranging songs..Went with this wonderfully noisy bit of chaos, that nods to the past, but is clearly of it's own time..

"This is why we fight" The Decemberists
Another wide ranging year with a lot to choose from..Always loved the historical twee jangle of the Decemberists and the 'The King is Dead' album added a little more crunch to the formula..Great song and video..

2010 Field Music - Let's Write a Book
Picking something from this album for 2010 was a no brainer for me. I was impressed from the first listen, and my appreciation only got bigger with successive plays. Their mix of odd musicality and pop sensibility brought together with a very careful production was very much up my street. I have picked this track, but there are four or five that would equally fit.

The Black Keys - Lonely Boy
I was more than happy to see The Black Keys achieving success. And I have no problem to get this song popping up on mainstream radio.

Ghostpoet - Cash and Carry Me Home
Going mainstream again, I seem to have swerved the female folkies I expect to have dominated this era. I picked a track from this album (might've been this) in one of the last preludin cups, and it was about as popular as Graham Linehan at a trans pride event. But I love the laid-back, somanbulant nature of his delivery and the lovely warm resonance of the almost percussive electronics providing the backdrop. Yeah uh wha'evuh.

2012 is open if you want it
EDIT: I forgot to nominate this for 2012. This instrumental has really stuck with me, it still sounds so exciting.

2012
Sticking with the mainstream for 2012, with alt-j's "Breezeblocks". Such a distinctive sound, and music which could be anglular and difficult somehow flows smoothly and freely.
