Is that one choice period or one choice per year? one choice for any year (so if you picked a track from 1973, that would be it...). You can still add a choice for any year if you haven't already done so as well of course. |

Baby Huey - Hard Times 1971
1971 was my most difficult choice - it was between this and the Delfonics Hey! Love and I flipped a coin. They are two of my favorite songs -- definitely in the top 5.

I already cheated by picking two tracks for 2005 (Paavoharju's Valo tihkuu kaiken läpi and Coil's Going Up) so I guess you don't need a choice from me.

So, the idea is that one would look at a thread like THIS - preludin.proboards.com/thread/6593/1970-74 - and then determine, for any given year (possibly with aid of the Contenders thread or one's own personal unpublished working lists for more fertile seeming years), what is missing. Once we've all (as it were) done this...THEN we discuss years in their totality? |

I was looking forward to this, and my idea was to rectify what I consider the most glaring omission in terms of artists, Led Zeppelin. I was hesitating between Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song or Levee, but a few days ago a song came to my mind that has been an all-time fave for yours truly, and I can’t help but bring it up right now (I don’t think anybody else would do it)
So
1969
Boz Scaggs – Loan Me a Dime
I'm not going to kid you, I first heard this song, on the Duane Allman Anthology sometime in the late 70's, not knowing who the fuck Boz Scaggs was. But I was instantly grateful that he had allowed so much space for the Muscle Shoals crew and specifically Duane, to shine on this song. A stellar guitar track if there ever was one.

I hate the thought that Nilsson didn’t make the cut any year (he was at his best during some of rock’s heaviest years). So let’s rectify with this one:
1971
Jump Into the Fire - Harry Nilsson
Not necessarily my FAVORITE Nilsson track. But one that ought to round out this project nicely.

Fully understanding that this is "a me problem", I happily labored for months under the misconception that we'd get an opportunity to (when discussing each year) each nominate a neglected song from as many years as we saw fit (there is roughly a 15 year span in there where, in each case, my ultimate choice was agonizingly winnowed down from a lengthy and varied list, and...I suppose the CONTENDERS thread illustrated the painful casualties). I looked forward to this series of correctives, as I felt that so many years demanded it. As I misperceived it, what an inspired and thought provoking idea! Knowing now that I can rescue one omission in total for the 60+ year totality feels a lot like "Eh. Why bother?" Again, fully my issue, I know. |
