Do you use it? How/why do you use it? What do you think of it? There have been a lot more ads recently. Yesterday, this governmental agency: twitter.com/4ILorgpromoted this tweet - so it was in everyone's feed: What do you think of social media companies taking money for circulating propaganda?

I go on a lot. Mainly following political figures and writers and sports writers and athletes.

I'm in two minds about Twitter ads like this. You can usually tell what's an ad or not, like on Facebook.
It's been interesting to see Google's history re: ads. First, the ads at the top of the page were fairly indistinguishable from the organic searches. Then, they added side ads - which they no longer do.
Now, the ads are clearly ads, but you also get paid images a couple searches down, which are sponsored as well.
I've run google ads and remarketing ads for companies almost since the start and their tools have become unbelievably sophisticated.

I don't seem to get as many ads on twitter as I do on facebook, and I don't recall seeing that Madonna thing either. I do have a habit of blocking every advert though (and reporting every ad on facebook), so perhaps they're finally running out of things to show me.
I use it a bit because there aren't many people in real life who know me on there, unlike facebook. I used to use it mainly to come up with crap jokes, I used to spew out whatever sprang to mind. Don't post anywhere near as much anymore.

Yeah I'm on it all the time, it's the only place I feel like people actuality listen to me. I guess growing up with constantly being told that "no one wants to hear your opinion" gave me a very strong need to constantly air my opinion on things.

I've never used it. No interest. I've never "followed" anyone, I leave that to the sheep. Still I'm going to have to bite the bullet because I have a couple of business things I need to promote, but I'd rather not bother!

I went on Twitter for a year or so, pretty much stopped bothering with it around early 2012, and a while later deleted my account. I've never been tempted to go back on.
Eventually I found the constant deluge of opinions and furious arguments just too simultaneously boring and irritating, and looking at it often left me feeling out of sorts and bad-tempered. In the end, it just seemed far too fractious a place to want to hang out very often.
That was doubtless partly my own fault, because of the accounts I chose to follow. And I can see why people find it really useful for following bands, sports teams and whatnot that they like to get up to date information. But in the end, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
I tend to avoid disputatious political stuff on Facebook these days, which is pretty easy to do if you ensure you don't go on it after a certain time in the evening or when you've had a glass of wine or two. I stay on it because it's an easy way to keep in touch with friends, and because there are quite a few pages and groups dedicated to historical stuff and militaria that I really enjoy reading.

If it is your shop, I'd strongly advise Instagram and really nothing else. Twitter is an entirely different beast.

Most of my friends are on Twitter but I also follow lots of Classics academics and football journalists. It is a huge wealth of knowledge and shows just how many vastly intelligent people are out there beyond the front line of media.
It comes with its own set of issues, but I think used wisely, it is a terrific thing.

If you're promoting something that's mainly visual, then there's not really much point in using Twitter to do it.

They've got some more material now, hopefully an album soon.
I don't look at Twitter as much as I did, but generally use it to find news or catch up with something like Question Time.

I really liked the old-school thrash thing they had going on, musically speaking. And I'm always a sucker for a thrash song with a classical guitar intro. With apologies for going off-topic, I don't know what they do in terms of gig booking etc, but I know a bloke at work who's in a hardcore band, and he seems to know people who put on shows in smaller venues that are receptive to noisy music, so I could have a word in his ear if they ever want to get shows in Manchester. Let me know.
