Exhibit C: Patti Smith / Soul Kitchen.
I think it's good. Not as good as if Patti were wearing pig-tails & playing a ukulele but pretty darned good.

Exhibit A - I almost really quite like it. Without having to watch the vid. She has a lovely voice and I do like a lot of what she does with it. But she does a bit too much. Inspired choice/treatment but not quite.
Exhibit B - cute and not bad. But not enough. Hey I'm a harsh critic.
Exhibit C - yeah it's Patti Smith, she's done a good job.
So far A's winning.

Someone posted this before somewhere asking for opinions on it.
If it wasn't Bennie and the Jets I might enjoy it. Here's the thing. Now that I'm older, it's really a great song commenting on all the garishness of glam - the good and bad. The loungey cover doesn't really complement that whereas the original did with the crowd noise and all that. And now I can't get seeing her hamming it up out of my head.

There should be a moratorium, "No music in 2020! We've got enough already! And most of THAT is shit!"

I listened to some of the tracks of the year from the Guardian and Pitchfork the other day.
Useless stuff. I mean just really weak. There is always good stuff out there but I don’t hear any greatness at all and the way reviewers drool over this stuff makes me want to shake them by the bloody neck.
At least TV is good!
(not that I watch much TV mind)
(I need to go to the cinema more this year)

The whole presentation seems to say "isn't this a cute, funny idea? Aren't we clever for coming up with it? Aren't you lucky that we're sharing it with you?" That's pretty much the entirety of Postmodern Jukebox... it's one of those ideas that's amusing when you're drunk at a party, and someone busts out into singing some pop song in a ridiculously kitschy swinging lounge style... but then they keep doing it through the night, and it gets less and less funny each time. PMJ was at the same party, but up the next morning, decided it would never stop being amusing, and spent the last decade running this gimmick further and further into the ground.

Oh I'd never, ever sit through a whole concert of it. But listening it to once or even a few times, if done well - well I liked it.
I did sit* through a whole concert of Caravan Palace, and it was really good, could have sat* through it again.
*I say "sat", there was a very great deal of bopping going on especially at the back. Some of it excellent.
