The whole presentation seems to say "isn't this a cute, funny idea? Aren't we clever for coming up with it? Aren't you lucky that we're sharing it with you?" That's pretty much the entirety of Postmodern Jukebox... it's one of those ideas that's amusing when you're drunk at a party, and someone busts out into singing some pop song in a ridiculously kitschy swinging lounge style... but then they keep doing it through the night, and it gets less and less funny each time. PMJ was at the same party, but up the next morning, decided it would never stop being amusing, and spent the last decade running this gimmick further and further into the ground.

Good or bad cover?
warning listening to the video may cause a mellowness so severe as to impede your normal motor functions. It is recommended that you watch the video seated preferably in a padded room.

Nobody ever loved me like he loved me Yes he loved me Yes he did And if somebody ever really loved me Like he loved me Then they did
I gotta like it just for that.
Could have been trimmed a bit, though.

I had to look up and listen to the original, which is a bollock-heavy dull dirge fest (though 'fest' is a bit too active a word for it). Whereas this cover is rather pleasant and not too fae.

I was grazing Google Play and for some reason ended up listening to ENO covers. I was surprised how many there were and how many I liked. of course I cold find NONE of them to share today. LOL. this one is pretty nice, though. pretty hard to ruin this one. such a neat little song.

Pretty much all of these covers and more attest to a Glee-ification of music, our kids are nice, they want nice music, the songs all have good bones, nice kids can sing them nicely making nice music. Whilst most of the originators were not nice, crazed out of their heads most would have done bad things to both Grandma and grandpa, their three legged dog and random house plants all at once. The catch will be when these nice kids making nice music are found to have been bad (because there will be recorded evidence) then this will have all been for nought.

On a couple of occasions I heard Mission Of Burma doing a hilariously great version of "Seven Deadly Finns". I keep hoping it'll turn up on YouTube, but no joy so far.

This is another great cover. Even though I know the original, this cover seems so good to me it seems like it's an original song. It seems so easy and so idiosyncratic. Or maybe it's because I know the version and Denny/Thompson et al's style. Dunno. But a cracker anyway

This is Kathryn Williams' version - from a just wonderful album
*Edit: I have this album, have played it dozens of times. But for the first time just now I heard something. I went back to the Byrds version to check if it's there and it isn't, so Kathryn Williams put it in her version herself; a few times, one of the underlying guitars plays the refrain 'old man river, that old man river'. It blends in and fits so well, you don't notice it. It's great.
