Both right in the middle of your own personal canon* but which of these two ACTS would you rescue from a huge expensive mansion if the damned thing suddenly started burning down?
*if you're a bit simple

Jeez, rescuing them nowadays? Christ, isn't there a dog or something that needs rescuing instead?
If I had to pick the catalogue of one over the other, I'd probably go with Aerosmith, even though they have far more absolute shit in the catalogue than the Police (due largely to longevity). But Rocks and Toys in the Attic (hell, even the debut) can hit the spot at rare times, in ways the Police never seem to do.

Even nowadays, I kind of think of Steven Tyler with some affection. He's kind of a dottering old granny at this point, but definitely not a complete and utter cunt. Can't say Sting can make that claim.
Even if I ignore the ridiculous Jamaican accent.

The Steve Carlton of rock. I'd pick Aerosmith too.

The Steve Carlton of rock. Not at the same quality level at their best, but that's kinda the idea, yeah. I'd go with the Jamie Moyer of rock.

I'd defend the Police but I think I'm on my own here.
And anyway, I don't care that much about them. But there were some very fine singles at the start (and a sense of fun that you might not expect, looking at Sting today - not to mention how 'muso' they were as a band).

Steven Tyler ... definitely not a complete and utter cunt. Can't say Sting can make that claim. Joe Perry is a dull dull man. I wouldn't know about Steve Tyler, he comes across as OK. He forced his young fiance many years ago to have an abortion which was a long trauma for her but that was decades ago. Her name's Julia Holcomb if you want to google it. Apart from being a too preachy and not a bit smug, what's wrong with Sting? I don't think much of Stewart Copeland, and Andy Stewart was a shagnasty. Musically, I wouldn't spend money on either of them, but I tend to go for the rock option so Aerosmith it is.
